On the 17th November 2015, I attended the animation festival in Manchester. This took place in a building called HOME near Oxford Road, Manchester. This was a great event to see work from animators across the globe. Films from graduates to industry professionals, it was interesting to see how the industry is rapidly growing in different forms.
Throughout the day I watched a variety of short films with different techniques of animation to it. The first lot of films were certificated 18. The majority of the work was made in 2D. My favourite film was by an Irish Director called Robert Cullen and it was called 'Fresh Cut Grass'. It was about a little dog trying to search for his sister. I liked how they reflected the title on the main prop of the film, and made the photo the both siblings relevant through the entire film. Also I liked how they exaggerated the design of the dogs eyes and made the film alot more vibrant. Above is an image from the film itself displaying what I have just discussed, on what I liked about it.

In addition, I attended a variety of talks too at the event, which were on the animation behind the films by Karel Zeman, Tomm Moore and the Fellowship Award: Brian Cosgrove. All of the talks I found interesting in some form and shape, One of the most interesting event from the following three talks would have to be from Tomm Moore. His guided behind the scenes of The Secret Of Kells prompted me to explore into 2D animation more, compared to my aspirations of becoming a stop motion animator, He inspired me to think about getting into drawing electronically, and exploring different techniques and software,
Furthermore, myself volunteered at Manimaton: The Childrens Media Conference. This was an event of showcasing the work of shows such as the Clangers, The Lego Games and the newly revamped Thunderbirds. Out the three I was fascinated by the presentation on Thunderbirds, as it demonstrated the collaboration with stop frame and C.G.I animated techniques. It was inspiring that the team behind the shows revamp, had a passion for the show and were motivated to make the show as original as they possibly could. They brought back Sylvia Anderson as the great aunt of Penelope (penelope was her original role) and they also stuck with the old theme tune too. Overall it was a great event to attend both the festival and the conference, and I hope to get involved next year.
