Unit X - Key Blog Post 3 - Reflection - Mathew Ball

Stage 3 - Reflection
As the project has dawned to a close, a reflection of the overall scenario for the project will need to summarised. With this being a collaborate unit there was certainly different views regarding how we were operating tasks and deadlines, throughout the entire project, whilst all areas of animation, film making, and photography worked together to create something unique for a variety of audiences.

Our project reflected on Giselle’s English National Ballet topic that entitles: ‘Love, Betrayal, and Forgiveness’. The narrative surrounds a character named Ethan, which is a boy with a troubled background and has had an experience when it comes to social media with relationships as a whole. The aside photographic image displays a social conversation between the user and Ethan, which is consisted on our show-reel for all to see.

A mixed reaction from his photo affected Ethan, which concluded and went into down wards spiral of depression (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmD538kuZQI). From the narrative being personal he animation visually describes how Ethan is feeling, in a form of a video game that’s inspired by old arcade shooters. All of the above reflects on the project by displaying the topic effectively and reflects on Giselle’s three subjects accordingly. We engaged with sensitive audiences which has made our work memorable, creative, and overall has allowed all elements including the plot, to co-exist with each other and reflect on Giselle’s theme.

As our show-reel clearly reflects on the subject at hand, our public representation of our chosen topic was developed because of potential timing constraints affecting the chance of meeting deadlines. The original plan of painting the walls black for a dark effect was denied. Although this changed our schedule, it did give us the advantage reflecting Ethan’s recent experiences in the art of a bedroom, with a variety of interesting posters of references of the carried out project research.

It gives audiences a challenge of how all of the chosen surroundings reflect on Love, Betrayal, and Forgiveness. Majority of visual elements have been designed to make his room dark and depressing, which allows our research to be in-directly displayed for audiences. Also within our bedroom setting a bed was added for effect which was easy to setup, which has collaborated effectively with other visual aspects of the project itself. Numerous props such as alcohol have been added, to fit the overall plot.

As a whole, the entire project was productive and efficient. The entire group collaborated up to a suitable standard, which reflected all three areas accordingly. Our chosen plot clearly displays of Giselle’s National Ballet theme, in the form of social media and relationships for easy reflection. The setting was developed continuously, how-ever gathered resources to reduce timing constraints. To maintain efficiency whilst working together, all areas of communication will need to be more active. One team member has been continuously sick, which was a struggle to bring the group together. Furthermore, more regular up-front meetings need to be put into action for the near future.
