Unit X – William Wilde – Research

We have been given a brief to create a thirty second film, which reflect on our client’s expertise, in our own adaption in relation to film, animation, or a combination of them both. William Wilde is a fashion designer from London. He had been known for his clothing in Latex, and working with clients such as Miley Cyrus and Kylie Minogue. We have been given the old folk-tale which has been adapted in many mediums such as films and books, known to people across the globe as ‘Cinderella’. It’s a story which follows the story of how Cinderella finds her happily ever after with Prince Charming, and to get away from her evil stepmother and ugly stepsisters.
William Wilde’s latex clothing and various other designs comes across as sexy, original, dynamic, and ‘out of the box’. These are the main qualities that the client is looking for, in order to consist on his website for industry purposes.  Therefore I have had the idea of having the scene from Cinderella when the fairy godmother appears, and grants the wish of her going to the ball, and falling in love with Prince Charming.

As this is for William Wilde and his fame from his latex clothing, we were inspired to turn the rags into latex, which gives off a sexy look for Cinderella with inspiration from his designs via his online website. I spotted the Latex Belle Bow Bra set. It has the colours of a light, and lively light blue which comes across as sexy, original, and dynamic. The bows can represent that she is going to a ball, however in a sexier way, which would advertise the works of William Wilde effectively in order to get clients via his dynamic style of advertising hence our design brief. Overall we would take inspiration from his work, and incorporate those ideas into producing our own final piece.

I consulted with my group in a meeting, along with the unit leader Kim Emson discussing the ideas what has been brought up so far. the idea of incorporating 1960's fashion into the world of William Wilde's design brief was mentioned. For a more original approach, the dresses above could be tweaked into a latex-styled attire,  matching the requirements of the client, and allow the finished product to be engaging, edgy, and diverse. Also the idea of having typography came up in the reccuring meetings the group had in the last couple of weeks. Having the inspiration for our chosen theme I have created Typography work displaying the audience it is aimed at (lips of girls) and combining famous quotes from the Cinderella story, in the form of a princess' shoe.

Lips to represent the women target audience for the brand.

Above is one of our latest ideas for the animation. As a group we agreed on the idea of a catchy tagline which says the following, 'Its not Ripped, it's Wilde'. We came up with the idea of  Cinderella not fitting into the dress because it is too tight, then the fair god mother rips it off. This can be a unique approach towards the final cut, allow humour and the fashion sense of William Wilde to collaborate in favour of filling out what the client has asked for effectively and efficiently.
To summarise what has been collected from various sources, the idea round the brief for William Wilde, it will likely be based around going to the ball, and the Fairy Godmother turning her rags into latex, in order to relate to the story and fill the requirements for William Wilde by making it as original and dynamic as possible. However this is developmental stage, which may subject to change, therefore meetings will continue to discuss the final approach towards the brief and begin production on the film itself. We will be incorporating our tag-line which is 'Its not ripped its Wilde', to acknowledge his unique and distinctive style of designing latex clothing.
